Backflow Testing

Irrigation System Backflow Testing in Albany, NY

Clean, drinkable water is often taken for granted. Ensuring the proper installation and operation of a backflow prevention device is just another step to provide for the safety of your family, household, or business and A J Lawn Sprinkler Co. Inc. is here to help in that process with professional backflow testing.
The plumbing code followed by New York state requires backflow prevention devices to be tested by a certified tester annually. It is up to each local water department to enforce these regulations. The town of Niskayuna is now going to enforce the regulation, and it is likely that the other municipalities will soon follow.

Backflow Tests

In water supply systems, water is normally maintained at a significant water pressure to enable water to flow from the tap, shower, etc. When water pressure fails or decreases (which may happen if a water main bursts, pipes freeze, or if there is unexpectedly high demand on the water system) the resulting siphon effect may draw contaminated water from the ground, from storage or from other sources to be taken into the system. A backflow preventer is installed to protect your domestic water from possible contamination.
The backflow prevention device of a typical lawn sprinkler system is located at the point the system diverges from the main house or building water supply, but may be located elsewhere in the main sprinkler pipe (outside, or just before the pipe exits the wall).
Due to our tight scheduling during the spring and fall, we are generally scheduling these tests for the winter months. If you have any questions, or would like to set up an appointment for a backflow preventer test, please call A J Lawn Sprinkler Co. Inc. today at (518) 303-8883
